The Athletics event in the ongoing African Games got underway on Day 11. This has been one event that Team Nigeria has an edge over other participate as athletes in this event start to prove their superiority against their competitors.

Nigeria has two (2) representative in the 100m final for both the Men's and Women's events.

Usheoritse Itsekiri(10.25s) and Raymond Ekevwo(10.26s) represent Nigeria in the Men's 100 final while Joy Udo-Gabriel(11.36s) and Aniekeme Alphonsus(11.82s) represent in the Women's Final.

3 athletes qualified for the Men's and Women's 400m Semi-finals.

Edose Ibadin qualified for the semis in Men's 800m with a time of 1:50.46.


Team Nigeria won a total of 16 medals (8 gold🥇 5 silver🥈 and 3 bronze🥉) to take its medal haul to 37 as they maintained the No. 6 spot on the Medals log.

Triple Jump

Grace Anigbata, gave Nigeria her first gold🥇 medal in the early hours of day 11 in the Triple Jump event. Grace has continued to stand tall in her dominance on the African soil as she is the current African Championship champion in the Triple Jump

She won gold after jumping a distance of 13.76m in style.

Men’s Discus

Debutant Dotun Ogundeji was in a class of his own in the men's discus event as he won silver🥈 for Nigeria after throwing a distance of 57.82m.

Egypt’s Shehab Ahmed won gold with 59.29m while Morocco's Elbachir Mbarki settled for bronze.

Weightlifting

It was a golden day for Team Nigeria in the Weightlifting events as they won 6 gold and 3 silver.

Inemo Emmanuel Appah clinched all the three(3)🥇🥇🥇 Gold medals in the Men's 61kg (271kg) Snatch (120kg) and Clean-Jerk (151kg).

Adijat Olarinoye and Joy Amalaha won all Gold and Silver in the Women's 55kg, Snatch and Clean-Jerk.

Adijat Olarinoye won 2 gold 🥇🥇 as she defeat fellow compatriot Joy Amalaha🥈🥈 in both the 55kg and Clean-Jerk events but Joy claim gold🥇 in the Snatch event ahead of Adijat🥈.

Algeria's Meryem Nada Ben Miloud finished 3th in all three categories.

Table Tennis

It was an all Nigeria final in the women's double after defeating Egypt and Algeria in the Semi-finals.

Duo Offiong Edem/Cecilia Akpan beat Fati Bello/ Olufunke Oshonaike in the final to win gold 🥇 and silver 🥈 respectively.

Duo Omotayo/Toriola helps Nigeria settled for bronze🥉 in the men's double event behind Algeria and Egypt who won gold and silver respectively.

Karate

Hope Adele won bronze🥉 in the Men's +84kg behind Morocco and Algeria.

Gymnastics

Nigeria won the third bronze🥉 in the women's team category behind Egypt and Algeria.

Football

The Nigeria Women's Football team has qualify to the final after dismantling Algeria 3-0 in the Semi-finals.

Nigeria too a 2-0 first half lead before rounding up with the 3rd goal in the second half.
