On Wednesday, September 27th, 2000, the United States defeated Cuba 4-0 to win the third gold medal in Olympic baseball history. It was the first gold medal for the United States in Olympic baseball. Cuba picked up the silver medal, as South Korea took bronze with a 3-1 victory over Japan. The tournament was held in Australia, with Sydney as the host city.
