The Philippines got their first win in the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup after Batang Gilas defeated Egypt, 70-69, at the Technological University Stadium in Santa Fe, Argentina.
Kai Sotto scored 28 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks for the first win of Batang Gilas over five consecutive games in the world stage.
The Philippines take the lead versus Egypt in almost the entire game.
But because of the poor third quarter of the Philippines, the Egypt scored more points to tie the game and made it harder for the Philippines to win.
But Sotto shot four free throws in the final 13 seconds. Batang Gilas recovered and take the lead again.
Due to today's victory, the Philippines and New Zealand will be playing for the 13th place in the 16-team tournament.
This is after New Zealand defeated China's team, 62-57, on their classification semifinals.
