The Philippines has already withdrawn from the basketball event in the 2018 Asian Games.

In a statement issued by the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP), they want to arrange the team for the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

They also focused on appealing to the imposed sanctions of the FIBA Disiplinary Panels on a rumble between Gilas Pilipinas and the Australian Basketball Team on July 2.

The SBP wants to improve the national basketball team to perform better in the international competitions.

The SBP thanked the Rain or Shine officials as well as NLEX coach Yeng Guiao for their efforts to participate in the tournament held in Indonesia on August 18 to September 2, 2018.

The SBP also asked for an apology to the Asian Games organizers and fans of the Philippine team because of their withdrawal in the competition.

Very good decision for the Philippine team. Good thing they want to resolve first their issues before joining other competitions. The Philippine team really learned their lesson and regret on what they did during FIBA against Australia. Hopefully this will improve the team and so that by the next time they would join some international competition they would not behave violently and act professionally with other players. Wishing good luck for the Philippine team.
