Manchester United v Arsenal - EPL betting prediction

Everything is set for the Manchester United v Arsenal fixture, which will take centre stage this Monday, September 30 at Old Trafford. Featuring two Premier League heavyweights, this is bound to be an exciting fixture, seeing how the two sides have a long history of rivalry, yet this will be the first time they will meet in over half a year.

Manchester United woes continue

Manchester United will enter their seventh fixture of the season following a rather disappointing start of their 2019/20 EPL campaign.

So far, the Red Devils managed to muster up an underwhelming 2-2-2 record. That puts them at 11th spot in the league, which is miles from what many expected to see from this side. Looking back at their last couple of fixtures, the Red Devils managed to edge past Leicester (1:0) on September 14, only to kneel down to West ham last week (2:0), which was arguably the worst result Solskjaer's men produced so far.

In their clash with the Hammers, it would be safe to say Man United performed very poorly in all three areas. Their attack was nowhere near as dangerous as we had hoped, but when it comes to their defence, the whole situation was even worse. The Lindelof-Maguire duo in the back failed to show any real partnership, which is a real reason for concern and if they do not learn to start working together soon, Man United will struggle to produce anything noteworthy in defence. That being said, we can't praise Young too much either, seeing how he failed to convince us he can contribute any significant quality to Man United's defence, which as of now is their biggest concern that needs addressing.

Arsenal’s imbalance between attack and defence

While we cannot praise Arsenal too much for their results so far into the season, the Gunners at least hold onto a slightly better 3-2-1 record, meaning a win here would push them to the third place in the league.

Looking back at how Arsenal performed in recent games, they produced a remarkable comeback against Aston Villa last week. Despite playing with only 10 men, Arsenal managed to come back from being 0:1 down and went on to end the five-goal thriller with a 3:2 win. There are many things that we can take from that fixture, yet it's Aubameyang's performance that is the most noteworthy. While he scored only once on that night, he is currently third-best scorer in the EPL, with six goals to his name, and if he can continue with his performances, we can expect many more goals from him. It's also worth noting Pepe scored his first goal against Aston Villa, and while it was from a penalty, it should give him some morale boost to score a couple more in the fixtures that will follow.

While we praise Arsenal's attack, we can't go past the fact they do not have the best defence in the league. In fact, they fall into the category of having one of the worst defensive lines as far as conceded goals are concerned. With 10 goals to their name, it’s the same old story for the Gunners this season, who do their best to compensate for their poor defence by boasting with a very solid attack.

Betting Prediction

The imbalance in Arsenal's defence and attack could turn around and bite them here. It's worth noting they have conceded as many goals as some of the worst teams and seeing how they conceded at least two goals in all of their last three fixtures (Tottenham, Watford, Aston Villa), it would be safe to assume they will concede at least once at the hands of Man United this Monday. On the other side, we have talked about Man United's questionable defence, leading us to believe Arsenal as well will have more than a handful of opportunities to score a goal. And seeing how solid their attack looked so far, we are confident saying the Gunners will produce a goal or two here as well.

All in all, this one should be an entertaining fixture, featuring two teams that struggle to defend their net, but have more than enough firepower to produce plenty of goal scoring opportunities.
