High flying Wolves fell on hard ground

To say Wolves are not enjoying the best start of 2019/20 Premier League would be an understatement. Following an impressive 2018/19 campaign, when Wolves finished top seven and secured a spot in Europa League, a lot of expectations were put on Nuno Espírito Santo and his men to deliver and compete for top spots this season. However, the reality is the complete opposite.

Six rounds deep, Wolverhampton hold onto an unenviable 0-4-2 record and a total of four points, meaning they are tied with Aston Villa as the second-worst team in the league. The situation Wolves are currently in leaves a lot of questions unanswered, namely, what does the future hold in store for Nuno Espírito Santo and how long will he remain at the Molineux. While it was expected to see Wolves struggle having to play in both EPL and Europa League, there is much more behind their poor results than just Europa fatigue. While it would be easy to expect Wolves to put up solid results in Europa League at the expense of EPL shows, even that is not true, seeing how they struggled to defeat Braga and are now 0-1 down in their group.

As it's rather obvious Wolves struggle to produce goals, which, if they do not address and do something about, they could end this season as the biggest disappointment of the league. That being said, their Saturday's opponents are not in a much better spot, results-wise as well as in terms of expectations we had for them and the spot they are now in.

Watford's new coach expected to bring defensive improvements

Watford parted ways with Javi Garcia before the international break, hoping they can salvage something from this season, following a rather poor 0-1-2 start of their 2019/20 campaign. As his replacement, the Hornets brought in Quique Sanchez Flores as the man who will save their sinking ship. His venture at Vicarage Road outfit started with a solid 2:2 draw against Arsenal, where Watford came back from being 0:2 down. A very impressive result, but maybe it was not so much the sign of Watford's quality but rather the poor mentality of Arsenal.

With a solid result behind them, Watford entered their round six fixture against Man City with high hopes they can walk away with something in their hands. And they did, but maybe not with what they expected. On that day, Watford, instead of earning points, ended up making history by being involved in the second-highest defeat recorded in EPL's history. Unfortunately for them, they were on the wrong side of the stick, as they had to endure a tough beating from Pep Guardiola's men who dismantled them 8:0. Having suffered a painful and humiliating defeat, we can expect Watford to do something to avoid any further such results. And considering their newly appointed coach is known for his defensive nous, some defensive improvements should be on the horizon. Meaning Watford's defence should tighten up soon enough, to help them improve their record and climb out of the relegation zone.

Prediction

Neither of the teams have won a match so far, and while they will both have a solid shot of winning this Sunday, there is a possibility neither will walk away with three points. All things considered, this fixture will not have many goals. Wolves struggle to produce goals, and Watford are bound to tighten up their defence after their less than impressive show last week. Then there is also another thing we need to consider, which is that neither team can afford to lose this fixture, meaning we can't expect any side to risk too much to win. Expect a low scoring match with less than two goals.
