Betterbetting is a Blockchain Sports Betting project I have followed for a while and covered on my blog in the past. I was not really sold on my initial impression (See Post). Watching an interview of CEO Adriaan Brink seeing how he clearly understands the betting market got me to take a 2nd look into this one. (See Post). They have continues to build their platform ever since. Last weekend I took my first bet on their betr.bet bookie website...

If you want to beat the betting markets, you need to do everything you can to always get the best possible odds. Over a bigger bet sample, this makes a huge difference. One of the reasons why I'm into blockchain and crypto is because it has the potential to do way better compared to what is already out there.

Sportmarket Pro

This is my main betting broker where I have all my betting action in Euro as they always allow me to instantly take the best available odds on the market.

Nitrogensports
This is my main BTC betting website along with sportsbet.io who are offering fair odds and limits while having a very good reputation. The offers are limited and odds always a bit lower compared to what I'm able to get on my main betting broker. Their main advantage is that they allow bets in BTC making it possible to put some of my holdings to good use.

Betscorum
Betscorum Highly impressed me when it released and has huge potential with 0% fees and a very nice looking and user-friendly platform. The devs continue to boycott their own exchange giving it no support whatsoever and the community has been waiting forever to get new sports on there. At this moment it's rather useless and wasted potential.

Betr.bet
The Betterbettig platform is something I would potentially use as an alternative to Nitrogesports and Sportsbet. They are for as far as I understand linked to existing bookmakers on the Asian market and all bets are converted and back to the BETR tokens. They have a working platform ad allow you to take bets in BETR | ETH | EOS

MY FIRST BET ON BETR.BET

So I bought some BETR back in the day right after the ICO craze since it was one of the few projects I saw myself potentially using as a more serious sports bettor. At the time the price was down quite a bit already compared to the ICO price which got me to think it was a bargain. The market continued to crash making all the coins from these projects worth a fraction of what it used to be. this is one of the projects that continued to build their platform.

  • Part 1: Attempt to bet with EOS
I just recently set up my own EOS account using Scatter and my Nano Ledger S for security reasons. Betr.bet allows you to bet without having to make an account if you have a Scatter Wallet. I tried to place a bet this way but got an error message. I just contacted the CEO Adriaan Brink on telegram about it and he said that it is supposed to work. He is using a Trezor hardware wallet which works for him and will try it out with a ledger to see if it's me or if it actually doesn't work yet. I might make another EOS account just using Scatter to see if that works later this week.
  • Part 2: Registering at Betr.bet
Registering at betr.bet is really easy. The e-mail address is optional in case you want password recovery and it can be changed later on.
  • Part 3: Funding Account
I could choose to bet in BETR which is e ERC-20 token or ETH. I still had my BETR tokens on Hitbtc and betterbetting is currently covering all the gas costs so I logged into Hitbct wanting to withdraw the BETR only to see ridiculous withdraw fees. I only had 13700 BETR tokens (~24$) and the fee was 4745 BETR (8.3$) which I was unwilling to pay. I WILL NEVER USE HITBTC AGAIN
  • Part 4: Finding Loopholes
So the way I avoided having to pay the crazy fees was to sell the BETR for ETH on Hitbct and sell that ETH for EOS which is the coin with the least transaction fees on Hitbtc (0.01 EOS | 0.065$). The better options to buy BETR are Changelly and the Bancor network. Since bancor gave a better conversion rate I choose that, had to make an account on Bancor.network send the EOS from Hitbtc and did a conversion to BETR. The EOS first got converted to BNT and afterward into BETR. Getting my EOS into the Bancor website did not work without having gas to pay for the transaction so I send a minimum of ETH to bancor to finally be able to get BETR in my wallet. This entire operation did work as I managed to get 13496 BETR instead of 8955 BETR if I just paid the scam Hitbtc withdraw fees. At the same time, it made me realize how far from mainstream adoption this all is still.
  • Part 5: Taking a Bet
When sending BETR to your wallet you actually get 0.05 ETH in your account from Betterbetting to pay for the Gas fees. (this only works when using BETR, not when depositing ETH and betting with that).

Betting itself once getting the BETR on my account was actually really easy. I placed a small test bet on the Roland Garros Final taking Thiem +2.5 Sets @ 1.813 which were better odds than I was able to find anywhere else including Sportmarket Pro where Pinnacle only had around 1.713. The bet was accepted quickly, stored on the Ethereum network (See Etherscan) and it ended up winning and was paid out quickly.

  • Part 6: Betr.bet Conclusion
Once I got my BETR in my wallet, the entire process went very smooth. The major roadblock right now for Betterbetting are the Gas prices. They are covering these right now but it's not scalable. Taking a ~500BETR bet (1$) cost around 0.30$ in Gas costs which is just ridiculous. They are looking to switch to EOS which has 'free transactions'. EOS is already implemented and I will test out this week. If I can bet on Betr.bet with EOS I will likely start doing that next season on a more regular basis.

If anyone wants to test out Betterbetting and judge for yourself, feel free to use my referral link. I would avoid betting in ETH since you will have to cover the Gas cost. They offer more sports and odds on plenty of different betting options with odds that are on par with the best on the market.

  • Part 7: Conclusion for Betscorum
Without a doubt, Betscorum is still miles ahead when it comes down to potential user experience but Devs seem to continue to do everything they can to hold it back and make sure nobody is using it. Having to jump all the hoops to get in a single bet on Betr.bet made me realize the wasted potential of betscorum even more.

I will test out the EOS betting on the betterbetting platform and continue to follow this project more closely from now on. I will likely make more regular post with updates on how things are moving along.

If anyone with and EOS account can test if it works for them with or without a Nano Ledger S and let me know that would be a great help. Thanks
