Fulham v Cardiff

This is it. Now or never for Cardiff as they bid to maintain their Premier League status for another season. To be fair to the South Wales club, most pundits would probably have imagined that they would already have been relegated by this stage of the season so the fact that they are hanging on by their proverbial fingernails is testament to the good work that Neil Warnock has done in keeping a squad of lesser players fighting until the bitter end.

For their part home team Fulham are undergoing something of a renaissance in form albeit that it is too little, too late. 2 wins on the trot as well as 2 clean sheets for Scott Parker's team have at least taken them past the 20 point mark for the season and a 3rd win in a row would equal their all time Premier League record. Scoring goals hasn't been a problem for Fulham this year, they have only drawn a blank in 1 of their last 7 games and that was against Man City. If they can continue their good defensive work of late then they won't be a pushover even against a side with more to play for.

Cardiff can at least draw upon the fact that they have won all 3 of their previous EPL fixtures against Fulham including a 4-2 win in the reserve fixture last autumn. However, travelling to London has never been a particular strong point for Cardiff and they have lost all their games in the capital so far this year. The Bluebirds will have to go for it in this match but I can see Fulham scoring at least once against a shaky looking defence.

Southampton v Bournemouth

Southampton will be safe if they can better Cardiff's result on Saturday. It has been quite the turn-around for the home team following the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl who inherited a side short of confidence, unable to score goals and weak at the back that were sat firmly in the bottom 3 at the half-way stage of the season. Their late revival is of course very similar to that of last year's surge following the sacking of Mauricio Pellegrino with 8 games to go. The real question then is whether they can build something under Hasenhutti that sees them avoid this situation next year.

Home form is always an important factor in any side's bid to avoid relegation and Southampton have managed 3 wins in their last 4 games at St. Mary's as well as scoring in 12 consecutive home fixtures. With Shane Long, Charlie Austin and Danny Ings all in decent goal-scoring form you would back The Saints to be able to continue that run here today.

As for Bournemouth, it's pretty difficult to predict anything with them at the moment. A 5-0 win at Brighton was sandwiched in-between home defeats to Fulham and Burnley and such inconsistency has seen the Cherries hopes of a top-half finish evaporate. They also have a terrible record in this fixture having never won against their closest neighbours (the 2 grounds are less than 30miles apart) and it's difficult to see that they will reverse that trend today.

Brighton v Newcastle

By the time this match begins at 5:30pm, Brighton will know just how concerning their position is. If Cardiff lose to Fulham in the 3 o'clock kick-off then a win for The Seagulls will essentially see them safe given their far superior goal-difference. At the same time, if Cardiff can get a result in West London then the pressure at the Amex Stadium is likely to reach fever pitch.

The home team showed some good fight on their travels to get a draw at Wolves and oh so nearly become their first visiting team to take anything from Spurs' new stadium but a late Eriksen goal robbed them of a hard earned point. At home things have not been good for Brighton of late. They have not scored let alone won in the league at home since the beginning of March when basement club Huddersfield came to visit. It would be a very welcome time for the club to reverse such fortunes.

As for Newcastle, we know that they will not be an easy side to beat in this fixture and in fact their later season form has seen them win 5 of their last 10 EPL matches, form which would be good enough for a Champions League spot if maintained across the whole year. Ayoze Perez is the player to watch for The Magpies at the moment and he may well fancy his chances against a Brighton side who has shipped a fair few goals at home of late. I can't imagine this match will be a goal fest and I think Newcastle might just pinch a win.
