Today’s match in the Indian Super League is between North East United and Chennaiyin FC is to be played at Guwahati, the home base of the former. North East UTD is placed fourth in the league table while Chennayin FC is languishing at the bottom with just 5 points from 12 matches that they have played so far. North East Utd has started their campaign well this season while Chennaiyin FC, who are the two time and reigning champions have had their worst season so far.
While the Highlanders have so far conceded 14 goals, they have scored 16 goals against their opposition. Chennai FC has conceded 24 goals while scoring only 13 goals in the competition. Both the teams have been winless in their last 5 matches with Nort East Utd drawing four of their matches, while Chennaiyin FC has lost four of theirs. Eelco Schattorie will be hoping that his boys will win the match to get away from Jamshedpur FC who are breathing down their necks. John Gregory, on the other hand, will want his team to finish somewhere in the top half of the table for with only six games in hand.
On a head to head basis, the two teams have met 9 times in the league so far. While North East United have won 5 of those encounters, Chennaiyin FC has won just 2 times with 2 matches being drawn. The last time that the two teams met in Chennai, North East United won a high scoring match in which Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a hat trick for the visitors.
I will place my bet on the North East United at the odds of 2.25. Even though the North East United has a poor record in their home games, Chennaiyin FC will have to put their act together to beat the high landers at home.
