Tuesday saw a very unusual event unfolding as both matches that were expected to produce a flurry of goals, resulted in two goal-less draws. Liverpool against Bayern was entertaining, however, as the possession swapped quickly and allowed each team to get a few chances on the break. Barcelona also have plenty chances with 25 shots during the game but with only 5 on target, the result speaks for itself. Tonight should provide some better results with the two featured games.

Atletico Madrid - Juventus

Ronaldo's return to playing Spanish competition continues tonight as they will attempt to overcome a defensive-minded Atletico Madrid. Madrid have arguably came from a tougher group including the likes of Dortmund and Monaco (although Monaco isnt viewed as strong opposition at the moment). Juventus won their group as expected but facing the likes of a Pre-Solskjaer United, Young Boys and Valencia, it can be said they did not have a difficult time securing qualification. Some key stats for this encounter:

  1. Atletico Madrid are unbeaten at home this Champions League and have scored at least twice in all three home games. They only conceded once to Club Brugge.
  2. Juventus have won two and only lost their final group game to Young Boys when away from home.
  3. Both teams have only saw over 2,5 goals at a third of their fixtures being played at home (Atletico) and Away (Juventus).
  4. Top scorers of Griezmann (4) for Atletico and Dybala (5) for Juventus will appear this match.
  5. Both teams have strong cleansheet records this campaign. Madrid have 50% while Juventus have kept a clean sheet in 67% of their games.

My picks for this game:

  1. Juventus +0 @ 19/20
  2. Total goals under 2,5 @ 4/9
  3. First half correct score 0-0 @ 6/5

Schalke 04 - Manchester City

Manchester City continue to be one of Europe's elite and possibly most feared clubs. They qualified top of their group as expected with only a slight blemish with their loss to Lyon. Schalke, however, pulled off an impressive run to overcome Galatasaray by 7 points eventually to move on to the next round. I expect Guardiola to put on his main team and try win by a substantial margin tonight to be able to rest some players for the second leg and give some other players a chance. Some key stats for this fixture:

  1. Manchester City has seen over 2,5 goals in all Champions league games this season whereas Schalke have only seen over 2,5 goals in 1 game.
  2. Schalke have kept a clean sheet in two thirds of their games while CIty have only in a third of games.
  3. Schalke have scored on average 1 goal per game whereas Man City have scored 2,67 goals per game.
  4. Man City tend to play extremely strong first legs in competitions. Just remember the EFL cup where they beat Burton 9-0. The second leg was then used to rest and only 1-0 win for City occurred.
  5. Jesus and David Silva are City's top goalscorer's this campaign with 3 goals a piece. Schalke do not have a player that has scored more than once this entire campaign.

My tips for this game:

  1. Manchester City -1 @ 12/25
  2. Total goals over 3,5 @7/4
  3. BTTS - No @ 20/23
