Scorum Bet (BetScorum.com) is here and the entire community is excited to bet their hard-earned and/or recently purchased tokens on soccer matches from around the world. In this post, I'm going to explain the basics of betting on football (soccer).

If you're wondering what makes me an expert on betting on football, the answer is nothing other than my love for sports and (very) basic experience betting on football matches. I'm teaching you the basics because that's all I know. Thankfully, that's all you need to know to bet commission-free on BetScorum.com with SCR tokens.

Here are the basics of betting on football, which is just known as soccer here in the U.S.:

Types of Bets

In the world of sports betting, there are literally thousands of things you can bet on. Even within a single soccer match, betting sites allow you to bet on things like the number of red cards, the time of the first goal, who will score the first goal, and much more. We're going to keep it simple and discuss the two main types of bets you can make on a soccer match, which are the outcome and the number of total goals scored (over/unders and exact score).

Betting on the Outcome

Betting on the outcome of a match simply means that you are going to bet on the final result, whether a win for a specific team or a tie. On Scorum, there are six betting options for the outcome of a match (1, X, 2, 1X, 12, X2):

  • 1

Betting on "1" means that you are selecting the first team listed, which is also the home team, to win the match. Let's look at a quick example.

Bournemouth

VS

Arsenal

For the above match, "1" is Bournemouth. If you believe Bournemouth will win the match, you would take the bet listed under 1 (at the best odds or create better odds and place a bet for another user to match).

  • X

The "X" is for the draw/tie. If you believe the final result of the match will be a tie, you should bet on X.

  • 2

I think you're probably catching on. When you bet on "2," you're betting on the second team listed, which is also the away team. In this case, you would be betting on Arsenal to win.

  • 1X

Now we get into interesting bets that include more than one result. If you place a bet on 1X, using the example from above, you would win if Bournemouth win OR the match ends in a draw. The only way you would lose the bet is if Arsenal wins. As @philnewton stated in the comment section of another tutorial here on Scorum, this is also referred to as "laying Arsenal." These bets will have worse odds than betting on just one team to win or the draw, but they come with less risk and a greater chance of winning.

  • 12

You can even bet against the draw. A 12 bet is a bet against the tie. If Bournemouth or Arsenal wins the match, you win the bet.

  • X2

Simply put, betting on X2 means that you are betting that the game will end in a draw or in the second team listed winning (the away team -- Arsenal). You are "laying" Bournemouth (betting against them).

Over/Under

The other main type of bet you can make on betscorum.com is betting on the number of goals scored. The simplest version of this bet is an over/under bet.

You can select a number of goals (or half goals, .5) and then predict that the game will have more (over) or less (under) goals scored. For this match, I bet over 2.5 goals. The final score was Bournemouth 1, Arsenal 2. Since 3 goals were scored, which is over 2.5, I won the bet. Whether there were 3 or 10 goals scored, I would have won the bet. However, if the game ended with only 2 goals being scored, I would have lost the bet.

Now let's say that I bet 100 SCR on over 3 goals. Since the game ended with exactly three goals, the bet is a push, and I would receive my 100 SCR back.

Exact Score

Another popular bet among soccer bettors is the exact score of the match. This difficult wager requires you to guess what the final score will be. The winning bet for this match was 1-2 (1 for Bournemouth, 2 for Arsenal). Choosing anything other than the final score of the match results in a loss.

Handicap

The last type of goal-related bet I'll briefy discuss in this short guide is the handicap bet (it is next to "Correct Score" in the image above). This bet takes what professional handicappers believe will happen in the match into account. For the match we used as an example, Arsenal was likely a .5-1 goal favorite. Let's say they were a 1 goal favorite. If you thought that Arsenal would win the match by more than one goal, you would bet on Arsenal "-1." When you see "-1," this means that you need to subtract a single goal away from that team's score at the end of the match. If they still win after subtracting that goal, then you win the bet. Since the final score was 1-2, subtracting the goal from Arsenal, who scored two goals, would end in a draw. You would receive the amount you bet back since you neither won nor lost the bet.

This is a lot to digest so I'll stop there. Have questions? Please ask below! Happy betting my friends!
