We knew it was close, Hard Fork on Monday and then the Scorum Bet website went into maintenance mode a couple of days later. However rather than getting any reminder at all and so to take us away from Black Friday, Scorum Bet suddenly and unexpectedly went live yesterday.

I must say the design and look of the site is very nice and slick, we were promised a MVP (Minimal Viable Product) and they certainly have delivered on that.

Some nice touches are the team badges have been included as well as a live score feed, which is really great for the basic product.

One slight gripe is when you want to make bets available to other punters at a particular price this is rather more complicated than it is on other sites such as Betfair. Lets look at an example.

Here we see BB Erzurumspor v Antalyaspor and we can take a bet at 2.00 for the home win and there is 43 SCR available at that price. However say we want to offer a price of 2.1 how do we go about doing that? well to the right of the 1 X 2 columns are 1X 12 and X2 columns and it will be these that need to be used to offer up bets in the 1 X 2 selections. So to offer a price of 2.1 home win we need to place a bet in the X2 column, since this doesn't contain the 1 result and is therefore the other outcomes that are possible to a Home win.

This is where it gets complicated.

This is the bet interface and you can see that I am placing a bet on a Draw or Antalyaspor to Win at odds of 1.909 and the betting engine will do the calculation and place the bet at the odds of 2.1 for the home win.

I would have liked to just place the bet at 2.1 here but because all bets on Scorum Bet are Back bets we cannot do that, otherwise we would be backing it at 2.1.

It would however help a little to see below this the opposite bet calculation shown just so you can check you haven't made any errors. As it is now you only find out when the bet is placed.

So why do we place a bet at 1.909 to offer a home win price of 2.1? I did look on the Internet for opposite odds calculators but I couldn't find any so I constructed the following calculation that you can use on a spreadsheet to do the maths for you.

(1/(Odds you want to offer - 1)) + 1

So in our example 1/(2.1 - 1) + 1 = 1.909

So you have to put 1.909 in the bet for Draw or Antalyaspor to offer odds of 2.1 for a Home win by BB Erzurumspor

I am hoping that this can be improved to make it a little easier.

Verdict

Its early days and Scorum have said this is Beta and we should proceed with caution and bet small amounts but the product exceeds my expectations, for the time frame involved this is a really impressive feat, this team are now proven to deliver quality work in a timely fashion, actually putting a lot of other projects to shame. We also know this team listen and will make improvements. I see a bright future for Scorum Bet and Scorum the platform.
