Werder Bremen v Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction & Preview

Tonight's lone Bundesliga fixture sees a relegation 6 pointer between Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bremen seem to have used the lockdown to their advantage to work on some defensive organisation and baring the 4-1 thrashing they received in their opening game at the hands of Leverkusen they've gone the last 3 matches without conceding a goal, collecting 7 points in the process. That nice little run has taken them well clear of bottom side Paderborn and they know that a win tonight would lift them out of the automatic relegation places.

While things have definitely tightened up at the back, Werder Bremen are hardly setting the world on fire at the other end of the pitch. Their tally of 3 goals since the restart is the 3rd lowest in the league ahead of only Paderborn and a woeful looking Schalke side who they defeated in their last outing.

On the other hand, we have Eintracht Frankfurt whose inconsistency in results since the return has seen them slip to within 7 points of their hosts tonight. A win in this fixture would all but banish any fears of relegation but can they do it?

Creating chances and scoring goals has not been a problem for them so far. They had a whopping 34 shots at goal against SC Freiburg last week and have scored 8 times in their 4 games thus far. However, they are more than a bit leaky at the back having conceded 11 times in that same period although 5 of those goals were scored by table-topping Bayern Munich.

It seems likely that this match will see a clash of styles with Bremen happy to sit back and defend their area while Frankfurt do the bulk of attacking. Having breached the defences of 4 sides currently above them in the table you would have to fancy the visitors to do the same to Bremen tonight despite their recent turn-around. As noted above keeping a clean sheet against Schalke in their current form is nothing to write home about. Equally, if Eintracht do score then you have to question whether Bremen have the firepower to get back in the match.

I'm leaning towards an away win on this one and the odds at 2.5 or above are pretty decent but then again with Eintracht Frankfurt's penchant for conceding sloppy goals of late it's perhaps a better idea to take out some insurance.

Prediction: Double Chance (x2) Draw or Away win odds 1.50 or above
