The AFCON2021 tournament holding in Cameroon has come to a conclusion as champions Senegal for the first time in their history lifted the trophy against their northern African counterparts; the pharaohs of Egypt. Senegal who went into this match as heavy favorites against Egypt but missed a great opportunity on the 7th minutes when Mane squandered a golden opportunity to put his side on the driver's seat as goal keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal saved his kick from a rebound following Salah instructions. However, Mane was able to redeem himself with his last spot kick of the penalty shot out after 90 minutes and extra time was all Senegal needed to lift this trophy after missing out on previous two finals.
Head coach Cisse who has over the years been criticized for under utility of the talents in the Senegalese team was very much happy when the captain of this team presented him with the trophy.
Mohamed Salah didn't have any opportunity to take his spot kick during the penalty shootout and was seen shedding tears in what must have been a defeat very difficult to accept even before his club team mate Mane took that decisive penalty. Mohamed Abdelmonem hitting the post which Mendy avoided it's rebound for a goal and Mohanad Lasheen's kick saved by Edouard Mendy which made Bouna Sarr missed kick for Senegal irrelevant and as well prevented Salah from taking the spot kick. The pharoah's of Egypt will continue their search for their 8th continental title in next tournament. Kudos must be given to keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal for winning the man of the match.
Congress to Senegal!!
