Filip Hrgović is a 26-year-old Croatian heavyweight boxer born in Zagreb, nicknamed “El Animal”. He began his professional career on 30th September 2017 and has a winning streak of six wins (5 of which are knock-outs, one a unanimous decision) without a single loss.

This Saturday he entered the ring to compete for the WBC title.

In the other corner, we have 20 years older Amir Mansour. American who has been a professional boxer since 1998. Almost half of his 20-year career (8.5 years) he has spent in prison on a controlled substance charge, his career was resumed in 2010. He was regarded as Hrgović’s toughest opponent to date.

Hrgović was weighed at 105.7 kilograms (233 pounds) and Mansour 102.6 kg (226.2 lbs)

The match began with a song from Thompson: “Geni Kameni”. Hrgović said that he was very proud that he was singing for his match as he admires the singer. He said: „I am very proud to have Thompson as the singer for my entrance into the ring. I will fight for you."

And so for the 3000 viewers in the Arena and even more watching the broadcast the match began.

Hrgović dominated the first round as well as the second. He used his height and distance to his advantage, he gave the American a couple of hard punches.

However, the real deal was the third round where he went all out and Mansour went on the defence. The begging was one-sided in favour of Hrgoivć. When the judge started counting the first time he managed to get up but not much later he couldn’t go on.

Filip Hrgović is the world WBC champion.

After the round ended his girlfriend Marinela ran into the ring.

Filip is a huge inspiration! We wish the best of luck to our new champion and a new hope of Croatian boxing. I will definitely be following his progress in the future.

Congratulations!
