In short, 'AJ' is boxing's unified heavyweight champion of the world. His quest to become the undisputed champion still has blockades on the path, but he seems to be the most active and streaking titleholder at the current time.
With the return of foe Tyson Fury, and the consistent nagging from American champion Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua has few choices left in cementing his legacy for all time. Many have accused the unified champ of dodging Wilder and more difficult mandatories, but his thrilling 10th round knockout of the legend in Wladimir Klitschko showed he can get through the most difficult of situations and come out victorious.
Both Wilder and Joshua have been in very shaky spots in their undefeated tenures, but both man have pulled through the difficult moments (although not without controversial interference). As a fan, I am personally tired of hearing Joshua calling out both Wilder and Fury in an almost forceful manner... but we do need to see these fights. Besides hearing promoter Eddie Hearn sell 'wolf tickets' to the public, we need to see the fighters taking more action in pursuing the event.
Even with the champion of my home country in Deontay Wilder claiming he wants the fight badly, I still believe Anthony Joshua is an incredibly difficult matchup due to his more technical boxing ability. Wilder is a very clumsy fighter with question marks on his durability, and although Joshua has been hurt, he is the far more cleaner puncher and all around pugilist.
In my personal opinion, I think Tyson Fury poses the biggest threat to all men, but he needs at least a year of consistently active fighting due to his long layoff. The interim of 2018 will tell us exactly where the heavyweight division is, because if 'AJ' doesn't fight another champion soon, the fans may fall off his bandwagon. I feel as though Joshua has the appeal, the candor and the overall relatability to be a global superstar, but he must become undisputed first!
He will become a Future Legend, but the fights that take him there are yet to be seen!
