Video Source: * BERSERK! * Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury FULL PRESS CONFERENCE | Los Angeles

During their second heated press conference in Los Angeles yesterday, Fury took to the stage to mention that Wilder (40-0) was already knocked out over 10 years ago during his time as an amateur boxer. Even though Deontay Wilder is an undefeated pro, knockouts and/or losses that he may have received before he went professional are still interesting to hear despite what some critics may say.

Romanov LEFT.  Wilder RIGHT

Tyson Fury on Wilder (press conference):

"...I've seen him knocked out before by a little fat fellow..."

"In the amateurs he boxed , in America vs. Russia, and the little Russian fellow cleaned him out. Bam!"

"Legs and arms in the air. Out!"

After hearing Tyson joke on Wilder about his amateur loss I went and did some digging...

Who is this mystery Russian fighter?

Evgeny Romanov, who is only two years into his professional career, little talked about, and is undefeated.

Upon researching through forums, I discovered that Romanov is an extremely established fighter. There's even some belief that due to "boxing politics" Romanov is being kept behind doors and that some spectate we will never even see a rematch between him and Deontay Wilder while they are both professionals.

Evgeny Romanov has won a Gold Junior World title in 2004 and also competed and won the Russian Championship in 2009 while in the heavy weight division (wiki).

Surely the news of Wilder already being knocked out should prove interesting to many boxing fans who are drooling at the mouths to see Wilder and Fury fight. Because like Fury said, "there ain't no videos in the world of [him] ever getting knocked out." So to know that Deontay Wilder can be defeated and was defeated at one point in his career (whether amateur or not) without a doubt will hold some relevance to many fans.

I guess it's up to the fans whether or not they want to continue to hold Wilder's amateur loss against him. But it'll be hard to hold nearly anything against Wilder if he beats Fury on December 1st.

Like I said in my last post, I believe Deontay Wilder will be victorious over Tyson Fury and though his amateur loss is surprising to me, he is still undefeated on a professional level and still does deserve the right to be crowned the Heavy Weight Champion (for now).
