The light heavyweight title of the World Boxing Organization was won by the Colombian Eleider Alvarez when he defeated the Russian Sergey Kovalev, who fell to the floor three times.

First round

Álvarez started very well, with a few quick hands movements and the willingness to throw a lot of shots to the body and head of the Kovalev.

Second round

Kovalev seemed insecure, trying to maneuver to enter, but staying in a range that suited his rival. A hard blow from the Colombian to Kovalev in the second, was the beginning of what was coming.

Third round

Álvarez started the third by continuing to throw jabs, Kovalev began to move forward with greater purpose, as if he felt comfortable that Álvarez did not hurt him.

Fourth round

The fourth round was decisive. Kovalev advanced with energy, firing punches in the body of his rival, working on Alvarez in the head and body. A right hand seemed to hurt the challenger, as did a left-right combination. One hook landed behind Álvarez's jab, and another. Alvarez landed a right hand, but Kovalev certainly won the fourth round.

Fifth and sixth round

In the fifth and sixth rounds Álvarez made adjustments to limit the damage, circling the distance, limiting Kovalev one shot at a time, in order to catch the champion as he advanced. Kovalev used a constant jab to configure power shots, which he now launched with variety and threat: an uppercut, a hook, a right hand. At the end of the sixth round, Alvarez looked a little bad because of a nasty cut on his left cheek.

Seventh round

In the seventh round Álvarez threw a huge right hand that detonated with atomic force in Kovalev's jaw. Kovalev shuddered as he squatted, sat on the canvas for several seconds, and stood up without much conviction. He tried to get back in the fight, but the fight had already decided with that blow. Alvarez threw him a left hook and a right hand was thrown on his knees and then on his side, his left arm clumsily folded under and behind him. The referee stopped the action, but allowed Kovalev to have one last chance to prove he could continue. Álvarez threw a new punch, another right hand, sends Kovalev back to the floor and convinces the referee to intervene and stop the fight; Colombian Alvarez won the light heavyweight title of the World Boxing Organization
