Paulie ayala
Paul Anthony Ayala was born on April 22, 1970, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA He is 5'4 ”tall and fought in the 126,122 and 118lb divisions. He contested the WBC 118lb world title, losing a 6-round technical decision to Joichiro Tatsuyoshi in 1998, defeating Johnny Tapia by unanimous decision (UD), in 1999 for the WBA 118lb world title.
The first fight between Tapia and Paulie was named fight of the year. He defended his title against Sithai Condo, being named Fighter of the Year, and then against Johnny Bredahl by unanimous decision (UD) in 2000. Ayala and Tapia had a rematch in 2000, where Ayala won again by unanimous decision (UD), by a portion. of the 126lb title, many say the outcome of this fight was controversial.
He again defended his title by unanimous decision (UD), against Hugo Dianzo, leaving his title vacant. At 122lb he didn't have much of a run, aside from defeating former champion Clarence Adams. But at 126lb he would have a name again, losing by unanimous decision (UD), to Érik Morales in 2002, for the WBC world title and then being knocked out in 10 rounds by Marco Antonio Barrera in 2004.
