The ring didn't bell, the ice melted inside the glass of Whisky, and all the boxing fans around the world were letdown, as the expected 5 de Mayo boxing rematch between Saul "canelo" Alvarez and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin was rescheduled to September 15th due Canelo failed Two drug tests where low levels of the forbidden substance Clenbuterol were found in the Mexican's blood.

Canelo, or "Clenelo" as many of the boxing bloggers have baptized him was, rightfully so, suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, sanctioning him for Six months. It is important to point out that Mexico is a country with high cases of contaminated meat, hence a reason why many athletes have been caught under the influence of the aforementioned drug.

Now let's talk a bit about Canelo's doing. He allegedly claimed that he ate the tainted meat in Mexico, and that it was the sole reason why he tested positive. In my opinion clenelo is as guilty as they come, and his virtuous boxing career is stained by these results. Let me give you some reasons:

  1. The drug results were 1 ng/ml, which is within range of contaminated meat cases, yet, it is a possibility that Canelo could have been cycling; You see, these athletes are surrounded by professionals. One cannot discard the chance that he was tested at a stage in his cycle when the results were equal to the the levels from the tainted meat. Plus fighters are generally only tested during their fight camps.
  2. After the events unfolded. Canelo refused to give any comments to the press as he dissapeared from social media during some time; It was long after when he finally showed himself to the public eye, and claimed it was contaminated meat; You just had to look at his body language on interviews to notice how uncomfortable he was when questioned. He probably was elaborating the perfect excuse with his team.
  3. He is a Pro boxer for @pete's sake, and a star to make things worse. He has to know that all the eyes are on him. A boxer of this category cannot afford to make big mistakes like this, yeah the team blamed themselves but give me a break; Would you allow your best boxing, cash cow, ginger golden ticket star to commit  such a risk as eating meat in Mexico? A country that they supposed to know it's really high risk for its well documented antecedents? Yeah right.

Maybe my opinion is biased for I really hate cheaters in sports and life, but the thing is that most of these athletes are looking for ways to have an edge in these boxing fights, Lets wait and see what happens on September 15th. On my part I really want that Golovkin Knocks Canelo's Gingerness out.

What do you think folks? Guilty or Innocent?
