Is the so-called biggest boxing fight of the year about to become the biggest flop of the year

Tyson Fury would be challenging Deontay wilder for the WBC heavy weight title on December 1st at the 20,000 capacity Staples center, Los Angeles in a fight tagged by many as the biggest fight of the year.

If we are to go by recent reports that only 7000 tickets have so far been sold then the fight is heading towards being the biggest flop of the year despite all the publicity the fight has garnered.

Last night, at a press conference to promote the match , there was a face off between wilder and Fury in a move seen by many as a desperate move to boost ticket sales

Boxing enthusiast believe it did not make business sense staging the fight in Los Angeles, a place where many believe has no boxing history despite hosting boxing bouts featuring boxing greats such as Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis,Vitali Klitschko and Joe Louis,.They are of the opinion that if the fight was not going to be staged in the UK then it should have been staged at either the Barclays center,New York or Las Vegas where it is believed there are lots of boxing enthusiast or even in Wilder's home town Tuscaloosa.

Asides the location, many believe the price of tickets also contributed to the poor ticket sales with ring side tickets selling for as high as £119,000 on ticketing site viagogo

There is no respite for those who choose to watch the live fight on TV in the US,with £50 being charged by showtime for standard definition and other providers charging as high as £59.
