Just one day after conducting an unconventional induction ceremony into the Hall of Fame at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens held a test for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) ) in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

The audition, which was overseen by the head coach and general manager of the Roughriders, Chris Jones, was held on Sunday at South Pittsburg High School and had some attendees, including former UCF quarterback Justin Holman, and the former defensive back of South Carolina, Rico McWilliams.

"I know I'm really blessed and I can still play," Owens, 44, told Chattanooga Times Free Press after just over an hour of training. "What I did today was just a fragment of what I can do, I thank the coach for the opportunity, I guess I wanted to evaluate and see where I am physically.

"It's key when you try to do your best and I'm very satisfied with what you saw and what I did out there, being inducted into the Hall of Fame and going back and playing, why do not I know I can do it, it's just question that someone give me the opportunity. "

Jones, a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, said he wanted to evaluate Owens' route routes and test their resistance.

"I have proof whenever it is possible for former collegiate and professional athletes to have the opportunity to show themselves and see if they can improve our team," Jones told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "But I've never faced anything like that, I mean, he's 44 years old but he still runs 40 yards in 4.4 seconds.

"An agent contacted me to say that TO was interested in a test, I gave him the dates that we would be available and it turned out that the time was perfect for him since he was in Chattanooga for his ceremony. proof because there would not be the frenzy of the media that would be generated if he crossed the border to do the test in Canada. "

Recruited in the third round of the 1996 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Owens played eight seasons with the Niners, two with the Philadelphia Eagles, three with the Dallas Cowboys and one with the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The six-time Pro Bowl player accumulated 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdown receptions with 1,078 receptions.

He was cut by the Seattle Seahawks early in the 2012 preseason and has not played professionally since then.

On Saturday, Owens gave a 40-minute emotional speech at his alma mater, during which he reiterated why he did not go to the Hall of Fame weekend ceremonies and criticized what he described as a "flawed" voting process. .

Owens was elected to the Hall of Fame in his third year of eligibility.
