The Indian ex-captain Saurav Ganguly took great interest in promoting Rishab pant’s career. Wanting that he be brought into the national ODI team he even went to the extent of questiong the selection procedure of the BCCI. This information came to light after Rishab’s brilliant 159 not out agains the Australians at Sydney in India’s first Inning in the fourth Test. In a well-paced knock, Rishab played the perfect foil for Pujara in the beginning and played attackingly once he himself was well set. His performance won him praise from many renowned ex-cricketers.

Although he had a Test century to his name before walking on to the Sydney pitch, none of his previous knocks was really remarkable. That is probably why the selectors were reluctant to select him in the ODIs. But after this superb inning, Pant has shown that he has the capability to change the complexion of a game in a very short time. Saurav Ganguly is of the opinion that Pant should bat at number four in the ODIs. Pant has also demonstrated his ability to take on the fast bowlers besides tackling spinners well.

It is amply clear that Pant will not make it into the Indian ODI team for the World Cup. But Pant will now be a serious candidate to keep the wickets for India in other ODI matches. With backing from influential ex-cricketers like Saurav Ganguly Pant should find himself make the grade sooner rather than later. I do strongly fell that he deserves to be in the Indian ODI and T20 squad.

Dinesh Kartik has been playing at the number four slot for some time now and is a very able batsman. But te selectors should stll consider Rishab Pant if only solely for his batting abilities may beslightly lower down the order. He will prove an ideal player if and when action is required or when the team needs to accelerate in the latter overs.
