The IPL 2019 auction will start on 18th December 2018. The BCCI has released the list of the players for auction. On the whole, 1003 cricketer from all over the cricketing world submitted their registration for this auction. The BCCI has a shortlist of all the players. Of these 346 players will participate in the auction. All the franchises gave their preferred list of players for the event. Based on that list , the BCCI has shortlisted 346 eligible players.

None of the Indian players have been listed in the highest base price bracket. The highest base price is 2 crore INR. Only nine players have been selected at the highest base price. Out of the nine, five players are all-rounders. Not a single bowler could make it to the highest base price group.

Why is there no Indian in the highest base price slab?

Most of the better Indian players have been retained by their respective franchises. These franchises are now looking for the best players from across the world who can add value to their teams. Actually, the franchises want experienced players who have played enough of international cricket. That is why they prefer foreign players instead of adding to their pool of domestic players. Though Yuvraj Singh has much experience in international cricket, his performance in the IPL has not been very impressive.

Only one player from India has a base price of 1.5 crores. His name is Jayadev Unadcut. He was the most valued among Indian players in 2018 auction. He was purchased for 11.5 crore INR last season. Yuvraj`s base price is one crore this year which is one crore less as compared to the last season. Wridhiman Saha, Mohammad Shami, and Axshar Patel are also in the one Crore base price slab.

It seems that this season the franchises are mostly looking for all-rounders. There are many all-rounders in the list above the 50 lakh base price.

Among these 346 players, one player is from the USA. Eight Afghanistani players have secured a place for themselves among the shortlisted players. This is really astonishing. It shows that Afghanistan is the fastest growing cricket playing country in the world. The reason behind the selection of eight Afghanistani players is the consistently good performance of the Afghanistani team in world cricket. The number of Afghanistani players in the list is even more than that of either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. Two players from Bangladesh are on this list.

IPL 2019 is the most popular league in the world and that is why many players from all over the world trying to get a foot in the door. We can see that one-third of those players who registered have been shortlisted for auction. Now will be interesting to see who will get the highest amount in the auction.

What do you think? Who will get the highest bid in the auction? Which Indian player will be bought for the highest amount in the auction?
