One of the standout countries in the world of cricket would have to be India. Blessed with great players all over the team, it is not surprising to see that they have a great number of players in the ICC ranking. We can almost say that it is presently a straight battle between both teams for the highest numbers of players in the ranking table. One of such players would be Ajinkya Rahane. He is currently in the list and is now the vice-captain for the Indian when it comes to Test matches. So who is he and what do we know about him.
For one thing, we know that he is an Indian player. We also know that he was born in June in 1988 which would put him at 31 years. The first time he made his debut for his club Mumbai was in the 2007 season and it can be rightfully said that he has not looked back since then. Over the next five seasons for his team, he managed to get to 1500 runs and this happened a whopping three times. By 2011, India was finally ready to welcome him into the team. This was when he played in the T20 series for India against England. The opportunity to make his mark on the national team came after the last batsman had injured his hands n the process of playing.
While he was already off and running, he would have to wait for another three years before he would make his debut in the Test series for his country. However, he did not have to wait very long after that before he could secure his first century. That cane easy in the game against New Zealand. By 2019, he had already scored about 10 centuries in Test series showing the impact which he has made in this short time.
He was born in a modest home who was quick to introduce him to the sport at the age of 7. Despite not having the right tool to practice, he was still able to play the game regularly and this has surely helped him get to where he is right now.
When it comes to award, his award cuts across the different formats of the game. When it comes to the Test series, some of the achievements he has to his name would include being only the fifth batsman to score in every single innings in a game. He would also go down as the very first Indian to clinch the award for man of the match in the championship tournament. He is also the record holder for most catches in the format. However, he holds this record with at least four other persons.
When it comes to cricket, it doesn’t get better than records and having a great country to back you. Rahane has all of this on his side and it is now just a matter of how far he can go.
