There is a certain addiction to playing in front of a crowd who want to see you win. There is a feeling of happiness when you are one of their favorites. It gets even better if you hold any record alone that endears you to them. Not many players get to be viewed this way by their fans. Very few would be able to hold records which would endear them to the millions of fans out there. However, for fans’ favorite Martin Guptill, this is one luxury that he can afford.

Have no doubt though, Martin Guptill is not just starting out in cricket. he has been around the game for quite some time having been born in 1986. He has grown over the years to become one of the most important players in the squad. One of the most memorable moments to him would surely be the time when he becomes the only player in the history of his country New Zealand to have a double century when it comes to the ODI. He is also the player with the most runs for his country in a world cup campaign. There is no doubt that he has surely given his all over the last few years.

While he was out trying to save the world, his personal life did not suffer. He is married to his wife Laura who is also a journalist. His debut in the national side can be traced back to his first bow for the under-19 side. This was way back in 2006 when New Zealand took on Sri Lanka. He made progress in the national side and would go on to play against the West Indies in what would be his debut game in ODI format. That game would see him play so well, gathering a score which is the second-highest in the history of the ODI. He would go on to make his debut in the Test series in 2009.

The awards and records would start rolling in as he was given the T20 player of the year award. In addition to this, he is also the holder of so many interesting records. In a three-match series which saw New Zealand also play England, Martin would go on to score a total of 330 runs. That amount of runs would ensure that he set a world record for the highest number of runs scored in a single series. He would go on to score centuries against every member of the big nine countries when it comes to cricket.

The amount of records held by Martin is quite numerous. Therefore, it is not surprising if many people believe that he is among some of the best cricket players to play the game for New Zealand. At 33 years, there is only so much that he can achieve right now. However, he would be delighted with what he has achieved whenever he decides to go for a trip down memory lane.
