For those players who can both bat and bowl, they are blessed with amazing skills that come in handy at almost every point in their careers. All-rounders are important to the success of every team. Versatile, they can be the difference between an impending disaster and a crucial success at the right time. For New Zealand, they could not agree more. They have some of the best all-rounders at the moment. One of them would surely be Mitchell Santner. Who is he and what has he achieved so far on the international scene?

Born in 1992, he has surely matured into the game. Being an all-rounder, he is someone who has surely stepped up and become adept in all formats of the game. Because of his development, he has had the privilege of playing for his country many types across the three formats. However, he has also had an impact when it comes to domestic cricket. He currently plays for Northern Lights.

His international career can be said to have taken off after his great season in 2014/2015. After that, he was invited to play for his country for the very first time. What led to this opportunity was the announcement of the retirement of one of the veterans for New Zealand, Vettori. Another reason why he was allowed to play for New Zealand in England Your was that a number of the players from New Zealand were going to be unavoidably absent due to their participation in the Indian Premier League. While his inclusion was due to the absence of others, Santner just like every world-class player made this difference count in ways that just cannot be denied.

After scoring 94 when he faced Somerset, he was given another opportunity when he was included in the squad for the ODI format. This was coming at a time where he had played first-class cricket for his club only 19 times. He must have been thrilled, to say the least.

In 2017, he would be privileged to share an honor with Patel for being the first spinners in the history of the sport to kick off a one-day international match. This would surely be one memorable event that he would keep to mind. In 2018, he would face a rare injury when he injured his knee while playing against England. This would prove to be one of the worst injuries of his career as it kept him out of the game for close to nine months.

However, he just couldn’t stay away for long as he was soon back to the international scene in the game against Sri Lanka. He seemed to have kicked off where he stopped as he was chosen to represent his country in the just concluded Cricket World Cup.

Santner would surely look back at his career and be happy with what he has been able to achieve. As for us, we would simply be happy we have so many good cricket players during our generation.
