For a very long time, cricket was not something in which Afghanistan felt that they were really good out. Cricket is mostly controlled by some top teams who are holding the sport with all their might. However, things were soon to change. In 2009. This was all thanks to one player. A player which would be remembered in the country for elevating their status to at least a force to be reckoned with. That player is none other than Mohammad Nabi. We shall look at some of how he has shown immense commitment to the game.

Who is Nabi?

Simply put, he is a cricket player who has an all-rounder role in the team. He is also captain for some matches when playing in limited-overs part of the game. He is from Afghan and was born in 1985. What this means is that he is already 34 years old which is a healthy time to retire from the sport. However, even at that age, he is still at the top ten ICC rankings for the best all-rounders in the competition.

The very first match which his country played in the ODI game which took place on April 2009. He was also part of the team that would play the first test series for Afghanistan. He would see his team through to the Asian Cup where he played in some parts of the game. His participation in all their games also continued right to 2015 where they would take part in their very first Cricket World Cup. He went on to play a fundamental role in competition for them.

He is also seen as quite talented. The level of talent which he had made it possible for him to play in the Indian Premier League as the very first Afghanistan ever. However, no matter how hard a player tries, his age would always catch up with him. The fact that he had hit 30 led him to quit playing in the Test series for his country. He now puts all his focus on Limited Overs.

Controversy

He has had his fair share of issues while playing cricket. He has been found breaking the rule twice. The funny part? It all came against just one team which was Ireland. The issues which arise were in 2017 and 2018.

Regardless of the number of controversies, there is surely no denying the number of things that he has been able to do for his team and the entire sport in general. He would forever be grateful to his parents who moved to Peshawar. This is considered to be the place where he first started practicing his skills as a cricket.

Conclusion

Nabi is surely an icon for his country, an icon who would soon retire. However, he would forever be removed as one of the players who first played for Afghanistan in many big tournaments. It would surely be a smile to his lips every day
