Leaders are the burden bearers of any team. When a team is lacking the right mentality, the leaders are called. When the team needs some form of motivation, the leaders are also on the lips of so many people. While it is true that they can be a lot of leaders in a team, there can only be one recognized leader. That is the captain. The job of the captain is very essential in all sports including that of cricket. With a good leader, your team would probably lack the spine which is needed to go forward. Bangladesh is one cricket team that is blessed to have such a leader in their midst. His name is Mominul Haque.
When we talk about players that have given their all for their national side, we cannot help but admit that his name would be one of those up there among the rest. Mominul Haque is one player which is on every lip of Bangladesh fans. He plays in the Dhaka division and has numerous records for the international side. For example, there is no other player that has better averages in tests for Bangladesh than Haque. He is also the first and only player in the history of his country to attain 50+ consecutively eleven times in a role. This is in addition to the fact that he is the only player for Bangladesh to have hundreds on the scoresheet when it comes innings in Test series. Where would Bangladesh be without him? It was only fitting then that he would become their captain when it comes to Test matches.
He has achieved all this without even reaching the age of 30. Born on the 29th day of September 2001, he has grown to be one of the most important players for his country. The very first time he took to the field for his country in the Test series would be just six years ago. The opponents on that day were Sri Lanka and he ran away with half a century. In that same year, he would get his very first century when Bangladesh met New Zealand in a Test match. He would go on to score another century in the very next series meaning that he would become the first player from his country to score centuries twice in consecutive matches.
The many great moments he has given his country was enough impetus for them to hand him the captain armband on the 29th day of October 2019. However, this award came on the back of a ban from Al Hasan for corruption allegations. His first games as captain would come against India as he plans to lead Bangladesh into a dominant era.
There is no doubt that his legacy is already sealed for his country. He has proven himself over and over again. As he takes the captain's duties on, there would be no doubt a lot of positivity in the dressing room. That is just who he is.
