Cricket is forever etched in some countries around the world. It is not a surprise then that many countries and regions have dedicated a team to play the game of cricket. Today we would be looking at the team profile of the West Indies, who they are and what they have been able to achieve.

Who are the West Indies?

Simply put, the West Indies are the English speaking team from the Caribbean. The players who are on that team would come from about 15 different distinct regions on the islands and they come together to form the West Indies team.

The team is quite popular and known to be strong. This is shown by their current ranking among other things. When it comes to the test matches, they are currently ninth in the world. However, when it comes to the T20 series and the ranking that is considered to be official, their ranking takes a step or two upwards to 7th place. Their days of glory would be traced to the period between 1970 to about 1990 where they were considered to be at the top of the world when it came to the world of cricket. They have produced a large number of persons who are considered to be among the best to have played the sport.

What have they achieved?

The West Indies are among the most successful team in the competition. They are two-time winners of the world cup for cricket. They won this in 1975 and four years after that in 1979. They are also the winners of the T20 series twice and their wins have come in recent times with one coming in 2012 and the other coming just three years ago. Their youth team has also not been left out when it comes to the award which they have managed to claim during this period as it's under 19 team won the cricket world cup in 2004.

The West Indies have not only played the game but have also hosted the game on many occasions. They hosted the cricket world in 2007 when the world cup was hosted by then. They have also hosted the T20 series in recent times. The member countries that make up the west indies would include Barbados, Dominican Republic and a host of others. These nations stand on their own and are not subject to each other.

Current Games

West Indies have also been quite active in recent times with their current test match against India being their latest game. However, they lost that match early on before the fourth day was even over. However, the world of cricket would keep shifting and you can expect to see the West Indies taking the honors next time.

There can be no doubt that cricket would surely not be the same without the West Indies. They have contributed their quota to making the sport what it is today. They deserve praise and accolades for that.
