England's cricket star who has done a great deal for his team and made great contributions to cricket in general is now considering retirement after much deliberation. The 33 year old star declared his retirement from international cricket in an England and Wales Cricket Board statement which is quoted as:
"After much thought and deliberation over the last few months I have decided to announce my retirement from international cricket at the end of this Test series against India. Although it is a sad day, I can do so with a big smile on my face knowing I have given everything and there is nothing left in the tank". I have achieved more than I could have ever imagined and feel very privileged to have played for such a long time alongside some of the greats of the English game. The thought of not sharing the dressing room, again, with some of my teammates was the hardest part of my decision, but I know the timing is right."
Cook is currently playing his fifth test against India which started on the 7th of September and the venue is Oval, London. He added 71 runs to his team's total of 332 runs in the first inning. Cook's wicket was taken by Jasprit Bumrah. In the second inning he hit a century . Cook is playing the last match of his international career.
Alastair Nathan Cook had played his debut test match against India in the year of 2006. He has played a total of 160 test matches, 92 One Day Internationals, 4 twenty-twenty matches. His highest test match score is 294 runs, highest ODI match score is 137 runs and highest 20-20 score is 26 runs. Throughout his mesmerizing career he has only taken one wicket in the first test against India that too of Ishant Sharma. He has only bowled 18 balls.
Cook has admitted that the biggest regret that he has is the sacking of Kevin Peitersen. He that he was only proposing a break for Kevin but the final verdict was not up to him. He said that he had to bear the brunt for what had happened but Paul Downtown needed clarity and wanted an end to questions and speculations about Kevin.
Now latest on the 33 years old star is that he might take up as a commentator after retirement. Alastair Cook has been offered to be the commentator for the England- West Indies tour that is starting early next year. Cook's decision on this matter is still pending.
