Rabada took the all-important wickets of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. While he got the wicket of de Villiers off the last ball of his first over he claimed the wickets of Kohli, Akshdeep Nath and Pawan Negi in the first over of his second spell. RCB lost wickets at regular intervals to the frustration of Virat Kohli. Bad fielding when DC was batting and some insipid bowling saw the visitors winning the match with five wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare.

Patel was dismissed trying to slash a Sandeep Lamichhane ball which landed in the hands of the third man. Rabada then got de Villiers off the last ball of his first over. He bowled a slow, scrambled seam bouncer which de Villiers tried to hit out of the park only to give a catch to Colin Ingram. Marcus Stoinis soon followed dismissed by the left arm off spinner Axar Patel. No batsman had crossed 20 runs yet and RCB were 66 for the loss of three wickets off 10.4 overs.

Iyer added 68 runs for the second wicket with Prithvi Shaw (28 off 22), 4i runs with Colin Ingram (22 off 21) and 37 runs with Rishab Pant. Royal Challengers Bangalore have themselves to blame for the quandary that they are in. Only two of their batsmen, Kohli and Moeen Ali could manage scores of more than 30 runs. They dropped four chances in the field and their bowling was never up to the mark. They will have to pull their socks up if they are to make it to the playoffs this season.
