Just a couple of month ago, Nepal hit a big height in International cricket securing ODI or One Day International status. And today, Nepal registered its first ever ODI victory in the history.

If you don't know ODI, it is 50 over limited cricket between two countries with the status. Right now 16 countries around the world play ODI, 12 of them are permanent members, and Netherland and Nepal were the new addition this May. The story of Nepal's rise in cricket is more amazing considering the fact that Nepal's cricketing board had been banned by ICC because of corruption. It means Nepalese cricket has no governing body and Nepal’s coach and senior players had kept it running. This is how Nepal rose in cricketing rank. Source: ESPN Cricinfo.

After getting the ODI status, Nepal's boy had a tough task ahead without a governing body and infrastructures. After a couple of months, they visited the Netherlands to play their first ever ODI cricket in the history in a two-match series. Sadly, the new boys in ODI cricket couldn't do their best in their first ever match and suffered a loss by 55 runs. Nepal was at top of the match in most of the parts, bowling out the Dutch for 189 runs. But the misery of Nepal's batting continues as they just managed to score 134 runs. Nepal had a brilliant start and was at 85/1, but they fell like cards after that.

Nepal would like to return home with something after playing their maiden ODI series, but it didn't look likely yesterday in most part of the games. Nepal came to bat first but once again had a bad start losing their 5 wickets just for 88 runs. But all-rounder Sompal Kami gave some hope scoring brilliant 61 runs from 46 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes and supported captain Khadka who went to score 51 runs. Nepal was all out for 216 runs but did set a respectable target of 217 runs.

Coming into bat, Netherland lost its first wicket at 0 as Sompal Kami got Myburgh in his second ball. Netherland did recover after that and was once at 2-114. Then the brilliant bowling from the teenager Sandeep brought down the equation to 9-189. Then the nervy match went into the last over as Netherland needed 6 runs to win from final 6 balls while Nepal needed a wicket. Skipper Khadka came to bowl for Nepal and held his nerves. He conceded 4 runs and did a run out in the final ball securing a one-run victory for Nepal. Sompal Kami was a man of the match in today's match.

This will remain as a famous win in the history of Nepalese cricket and also be beginning of the new era. Nepal is still a very weak team without International exposure and there are lots of improvements to be done from Nepal's side. With no active cricket board, and everything going negative in management because of corruption, this victory was a crucial and most needed one. I wish all those problems in managements settles down quickly and eager to see many of these victories in the future. This was the celebration after the match, not a big one but Nepalese cricket fan would love to see it time and again.
