The ICC world T20 is going on and 62 countries are testing their luck to get into the final qualifier. Nepal is in Malaysia to play the first round of qualification game, and I posted yesterday about how Nepal won the game against Myanmar in 3 overs after limiting Myanmar for just 29 runs. When I was writing that, I thought of sharing this historical event to all you here, a day in which Nepal won the match against the same opponent Myanmar in just 2 balls 12 years ago. There was some interest in the comment section too remembering that match.

It was during the 2006 ACC Cup when Nepal created a history to become the quickest team to chase down the target in an official ICC match in just 2 balls. Myanmar was the weakest team in the tournament and entered into the tournament as the lowest ranked team. 2006 ACC Cup was the first-ever participation of Myanmar in International cricket. In contrast, Nepal was the strongest team among associates in Asia during those days. During that time, Nepal was even better than Afghanistan who now is a full member of ICC and plays test cricket. Nepal was playing in division 3 while Afghanistan in division 5 during that time.

In the pitch of Kelab Aman at Malaysia that favored pace bowlers, Nepal winning the toss decided to bowl first. Nepal's legendary all-rounder started the bowling for Nepal while captain Binod Das bowled from other ends. Alam was the one who tore the Myanmar innings away in a glimpse of an eye taking 7 wickets in just 6.1 over and conceding just 3 runs. Das got the remaining 3 wickets in his 6 overs to restrict Myanmar to just 10. Myanmar in12.1 overs made 10 runs for an unwanted record of the lowest target in International Cricket. The longest partnership Myanmar achieved was off 21 balls and Zarkariya faced the highest number of balls, scoring 1 run in 20 balls.

In the crease was Mahesh Chhetri and Dhirendra Chand to chase down the target of 10 runs while Aye Min Than came to bowl the first over for Myanmar. Nepal scored 6 runs in the first two balls adding more pressure to Myanmar's team. Poor Aye Min Than gave away 3 consecutive wide and above that, Nepal ran 2 runs in the third wide which wicketkeeper couldn't collect. Mehboob Alam collected the man of the match award for his 7 wickets. Here is the scorecard of Myanmar's innings and full scorecard can be found here if you are interested: http://www.asiancricket.org/acctrophy06/g_200806_03.htm

If you don't know, Mehboob Alam is the only cricketer to collect all 10 wickets in ICC official match in limited overs which he got against Mozambique at ICC World Cricket League in 2008.
