Hello friends, As you all know India is on a tour of New Zealand and is currently playing an ODI tournament with the hosts. Today India is celebrating it’s 70th Republic Day and our cricketers have given the Indian fans gift to celebrate about by winning against the New Zealand team by 90 runs. The Indian cricket team had never before won an ODI game played on the Republic Day before this and takes the 2-0 lead in the five-match series against New Zealand.
The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a very good start, playing shots all around the wicket to post their 14th century stand together. They played shots all around the wicket and took their partnership to 154 runs before Dhawan got off to a careless shout to a ball from Boult. I was very happy as I checked the score on my mobile as, being in the Indian Defence Forces, I was attending the Republic day function. Dhawan and Rohit Sharma scored 66 and 87 runs respectively. Rohit had to return to the pavilion when he attempted to play his favourite shot and could not time the pull shot.
The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayadu put together a stand of 64 runs for the third wicket. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav then saw the Indian inning through without further mishap. Dhoni hit five fours and a beautiful six in his contribution of 48 runs off 33 balls, while Kedar Jadhav made most of the opportunity by smashing 22 runs off just ten balls that he faced. India had by this time managed to score 324 runs. But it is worth noting that three Indian batsmen missed reaching their half centuries.
When New Zealand came out to bat their batsmen were already under pressure from the asking rate of 6.5 runs per over. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar scalped his first victim when he got rid of Martin Guptill. Shami soon got rid of Kane Williamson and New Zealand was in trouble. The best batsman for New Zealand turned out to be Doug Bracewell coming in at number eight. He played well under pressure to score an attacking 57 runs off only 46 balls. The Kiwis could not last all their allotted overs and were all out for 234 runs off only 40.2 overs thus conceding India a 90 runs victory.
Once again Kuldeep Yadav the bowler who bowls chinamen turned out to be the most successful bowler for India bagging four wickets. For New Zealand, Trent Boult was the best bowler who took two wickets while conceding 61 runs.
