Hello friends,

The BCCI has announced the Indian squad which is to play against Australia in India this summer. They have announced the squad for the T20 matches as well as the first two ODI’s. As we all know the Indian team was victorious in the Test match series and the ODI that they played in Australia during December and January. The T20 series between the two countries, which was played before the start of the Test series ended in a draw because rain washed out the play in the last match when both the teams were tied one all. The Australians will be coming to India with revenge on their minds.

Importantly for India, this is the last time that they get to play international limited-overs matches before they finalise their team for the ICC World Cup to be played in England and Wales at the end of May this year. The IPL will begin at the end of the Australian tour and will end only less than two weeks before the inaugural match of the World Cup.

The captain, Virat Kohli, who took rest for a couple of ODIs and the T20 series played in New Zealand is back again in the squad. The young opener Shubhman Gill has not been included in the named players. Some youngsters, however, have got a chance to play their wares and impress the Indian selectors. Among them are the Siddharth Kaul and the young wrist spinner Mayank Markande. The all-rounder Krunal Pandya has got another chance to prove his worthiness in the Indian side. His performance in New Zealand was not very impressive. Another youngster who played in New Zealand and impressed is Vijay Shanker who has got another chance to get his name in the list for England. Jasprit Bumrah comes back into the team after his long rest period and Bhuveneshwar Kumar has been rested this time.

Rishab Pant and Dinesh Kartik are both included in the named teams. The Indian selectors will watch the performance of these two closely. They will be also keeping an eye on the performance of Krunal Pandya and Vijay Shanker. Umesh Yadav has been given another chance this time. He was probably selected after his brilliant performance on the domestic circuit. Siddharth Kaul and Mayank Markande aren’t likely to get a place on the flight to England. They are on the side to rest some of the players who have been on the long tour of Australia and New Zealand.

What will be interesting in this series against Australia is how Virat Kohli handles Jhye Richardson, the Australian fast bowler. Will he be able to hound Kohli on the Indian wickets?
