Hello friends, You may have read my posts on Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders who are two of the franchises that take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In this post, I am going to talk about the last year’s runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Hyderabad is one of the leading teams in the IPL since it’s initiation. In the beginning, they were called the Deccan Chargers. They were crowned as the champions if the IPL in 2009 as the Deccan Chargers. Later there were some changes made to the in the ownership as well as the players that played for the franchise and the team was renamed as the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
They were the runners-up in the tournament last year having lost by 8 wickets to the Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets. This year SRH had five places to be filled in the IPL auction held in Jaipur in December. But they recruited only three players in the auction. The team has many foreign players of repute within their ranks. New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson, also captains SRH.
SRH has spent a total of 4.4 crore Indian Rupees to recruit the three players in the IPL auction. Johnny Bairstow bagged 50 per cent of the investment made by SRH. Johnny Bairstow is an England international who plays for them as a wicketkeeper-batsman. Apart from him they also have Wriddhiman Saha in their squad who is also a wicketkeeper-batsman. They have bought Martin Guptill, the New Zealand opening batsman. Currently, Martin Guptill is not in the best of form. He struggled against the Indian team in the ODI series. But he is an experienced cricketer who is good to watch when he gets going.
Shakib-al-Hassan, the Bangladeshi all-rounder who has been in the ICC T20 top all-rounders list for the past ten years, is also a part of the SRH squad. The Afghanistan ace, Rashid Khan will add some bite to the spin attack on the Indian pitches also. SRH also has Bhuveneshwar Kumar, the Indian pacer in their squad. Bhuvi has the knack of getting early wickets in any format of the game. The Hyderabadi team will also have the services of Yousuf Pathan who is an all-rounder and is capable of playing some big shots lower down the order.
Manish Pandey, Stan Lake, Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammed Nabi are some of the other popular players on the IPL circuit that make up the squad for SRH. Any and all of the players which I have mentioned before can make the playing eleven depending on the conditions of the pitch and the match situation.
