The gifted middle order batsman is in news from past some years for all wrong reasons. Umar Akmal was already suspended from the PSL 2020 due to the allegation of corruption. It was alleged that Akmal has failed to report two separate corrupt approaches prior to the start of PSL 2020. Akmal is charged under Article 2.4. 4 and subsequently suspended for three years from all forms of cricketing activities.

It's been a stop-start international career for the 29 year old. He is under scanner for indiscipline and shocking public statements. He faked an injury in 2010. He was booked for rash driving in 2014. In 2017, was sent home from champions trophy squad due to a failed fitness test. Akmal had also claimed that he was abused by then coach Mickey Arthur due to which he was dropped.

However, his skill and talent, backed by some solid domestic performances prompted Misbah - Ul-Haq(Selector and Coach) to recall him for T-20 internationals against Sri Lanka. This come back didn't last long due to the two golden ducks he suffered in the T-20 against Sri Lanka.PSL 2020 was a opportunity for him to make his case for comeback in the upcoming T-20 world cup.

Amidst of all the disturbances and dilemma in the past decade. He has somehow managed to remain under contention for selection in the national team . Post three years, with age not on his side, it will be intresting to see whether a strong comeback is on the cards or an international retirement with few years of substandard PSL Performances.
