India is the number one ranked team in test cricket and the reason for the top position is the good cricket they have played in past four years. The defeat by an innings and 159 runs is the worst defeat faced after four years. India has faced innings defeat 41 matches before under the leadership of M S Dhoni at Oval in 2014.

Under the Leadership of Virat Kohli India has played 37 test matches and it is the first time when the team faced innings defeat under his leadership.

In this match India was not able to stay at the crease for a single day. In both the two innings India played 82.2 overs 494 balls only. The lowest number of balls faced in a test match by India was against England at Manchester in 1952 (58.1) overs. The score at Lord's remains at the 5th position.

Indian doesn't get the desired start in both the innings and lost their first wicket on at a score of 0 in both innings. Murali Vijay was the man who got out without scoring a single run and interestingly he got out to same bowler (Jimmy Anderson) in both the Inings. With this the legendary seam bowler Jimmy Anderson became the fourth bowler to dismiss two opposition batsmen without scoring in each innings of a Test.

James Anderson become the first English bowler and second in the world to get 100 wickets at a single venue, though Muralidharan has done this job at three grounds. It took 23 matches for the legend to reach the milestone.

Interestingly, Anderson has never won a Man of the Match award at Lord's in 23 appearances.

Since it was not a thrilling encounter but in terms of statistics many records were made in the stipulated time. Chris Woakes became the fifth player to achieve the triple feat of scoring a century, taking a five-fer and taking ten wickets in a Test at Lord's after Gubby Allen, Keith Miller, Ian Botham and Stuart Broad. It was not a good day for R. Ashwin in terms of bowling but he remained the top scorer in both the Inings of the test. He became the first Indian player and fifth player overall to top score in each innings of a Test batting at eight or below after Lee Germon, Guy Whittal, Peter Siddle (batting at #9) & Graeme Cremer.
