At Stumps on Day 1 the scoreboard read 364-4. This included brilliant ton by Shaw and important contributions of 86 and 72* by Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli respectively.

Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Shardul Thakur was the one to be left out of the 12 members which were announced yesterday. Surprisingly Kraigg Brathwaite walked out for toss instead of Jason Holder who might had injured his ankle.

West Indies were already without two of their premium fast bowlers, Kemar Roach and Jason Holder. It was on display that they missed them quite severely as Indian batsmen didn't struggle at all. Although Shannon Gabriel did got the better of KL Rahul in the first over itself with an in-swinger which trapped him right in front.

From there-on runs were piled upon almost each and every delivery. Devendra Bishoo had to be brought into the ninth over with four players protecting the boundary. To add more of the frustration the inexperienced seamers Keemo Paul and Sherman Lewis didn't bowled well as Gabriel. It was evident by this how the Indian batsmen batted. Prithvi Shaw the debutant was on song right from the first ball. Pujara and Shaw played freely and got to their half centuries in no time. It was the first instance where Pujara brought up his half century in a single session.

Prithvi Shaw after that brought up his maiden ton driving through covers. By doing so, he became the 7th youngest to get to the milestone. Pujara unfortunately nicked one to a moving ball to the keeper when he was on 86. Prithvi Shaw, maybe out of tiredness got caught and bowled by Bishoo.

After that the experienced duo of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane carried on to a dominant position. There wasn't enough assistance for the bowlers today. Virat Kohli brought up his 20th fifty. Ajinkya Rahane on 41 edged one to the keeper off Roston Chase.

Rishabh Pant and the Indian skipper comfortably batted there-after till the end of Day's play. Clearly at the moment India are in a very dominating position and one can expect this duo to score as many as possible.
