ZAC Stadium, Chittagong, Bangladesh
The co hosts of the 2011 World Cup, Bangladesh had won just one out of three outings in the World Cup. Another loss would see them knocked out of the tournament, a win would make sure they are alive. England on the other hand needed a comfortable win after a shocking loss to Ireland, a tie versus India and a narrow win against South Africa.
Odds favored England but Bangladesh could not be taken easily. They began their campaign for the 2007 edition with a win against India, knocking them out at the group stage.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field. Three Englishmen were sent back to the dugout and the score read 53/3. Bangladesh's decision of fielding seemed to be in line with what had happened. Eoin Morgan and Jonathan Trott created a 109 run partnership, each scoring fifties. But once Trott left the crease with England at 182, Bangladesh began to strike. England lost 5 wickets within 43 runs and managed to score 225.
Bangladesh appeared to be spirited and in full swing, with 50 coming up in just 7.1 overs and it wasn't long before England began their counter attack by picking up three wickets within 50 runs. But once Tamim Iqbal was run out at 60, the collapse began. The scoreboard which read 155/4 read 169/8 in no time. With the likes of Shakib and Mushfiqur gone, Bangladesh stared at an inevitable defeat. Spectators began to leave the stadium in large numbers. But Mahmudullah and Shafiul Islam were not ready to give up. Taking calculated risks and showing grit, they managed to get past the line with two wickets and six balls remaining.
They later went on to knock out England in the 2015 World Cup, qualifying for the quarter finals. Bangladesh proved that they could not be taken easily.
