In this part of the series we will learn more about fast bowling and some armory fast bowlers need to possess. A fast bowler needs to have both inswing and outswing, a lethal yorker, a good bouncer and a good slower ball as well to succeed at any level he's playing at. And of course reverse swing when the ball is old. But today we will learn about the art of swing bowling and the rest will come following.
Swing bowling is an art and some have a mastery over it. There are players around the world who can naturally swing the ball without putting in any effort to do so or without learning the art of bowling swing. We will consider that our bowlers cannot bowl swing naturally but they have to learn it to be successful. I'll share some tips with you all on that and we will see how we can develop our skills of bowling swing with new or a semi new ball.
How to bowl an outswinger?
1. Take the ball in your hand and rest your fingers on the seam use the thumb as support.
2. The shiny side of the ball has to be inside to move the ball outwards to a right handed batsman.
3. Point the seam towards slips (you can also keep it straight if it works for you).
4. Hold the ball neither too tight nor too loose in your hand.
5. Your wrist should be cocked and it cannot be loose at all. It plays a major role in swinging the ball. So you need to have firm wrist while you deliver the ball.
6. When you are about to release the ball keep in mind that your wrist is cocked and your action has to be high arm or about. Your index finger should be the last touch on the ball upon release.
7. Run down your fingers on the seam and the palm of your hand should be pointed towards the slips while delivering the ball.
