A random assortment of topics around the cricketing globe, I take you through some of the latest cricket action and talking points. Today we delve into Australia's tour of India, Colin Munro's current position in New Zealand's ODI team and Afghanistan's demolition against Ireland.

Australia defeat India against all odds

If you weren't in the vast majority of individuals that expected India to walk all over the touring Australians in the T20I's and ODI's, congratulations! Sending the Indians in to bat first proved to be the right move in the end, but only just. It wasn't your typical Indian innings though, Rohit Sharma was dismissed early and skipper Virat Kohli looked in ominous touch before smashing one straight down Nathan Coulter-Nile's throat at long-on for 24. Apart from KL Rahul's stylish-half century, India's batting line-up was dysfunctional as Nathan Coulter-Nile helped himself to 3/26 along with Jason Behrendorff, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa who all picked up one apiece. Pat Cummins strangled the Indian batsmen going at under 5 runs an over, but it was MS Dhoni who was once again the talking point with his sluggish-29 not out. Dhoni was reluctant to take singles which may have cost India the game, the home side needed every run they could get late in the innings.

Nevertheless, with a target of 127 Australia did exceptionally well to restrict the Indians to a lowish-total. It wasn't all smooth-sailing for the visitors either, a horrible mix up and lbw shout saw both Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch walking back to the pavilion for a combined 1 run! On the verge of another batting collapse, it was D'Arcy Short and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell who steered the Aussies away from the danger zone as the pair quickly rebuilt and got them to 89 before the big show departed for 56. Despite Maxwell's departure, Australia looked in the box seat before Short was run out in yet another miscommunication out in the middle. In the blink of an eye, the Aussies had lost three wickets in a matter of no time thanks to an inspired Jasprit Bumrah. With Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson at the crease, Australia miraculously hit the winning runs on the very-last ball of the game as the match ended in a thriller! Mistakes were plenty from both sides, but Australia managed to hold their nerve which saw them rewarded with victory.

Colin Munro's World Cup spot in jeopardy?

The 31-year-old New Zealander has become a powerhouse-T20 name all around the world and for his country, he's one of the few players left in International cricket that shows no fear of attacking any bowler he comes up against. With 3 T20 International centuries to his name, Colin Munro is now one of the Black Caps locks in the team regardless of his form.

The same can't be said about his ODI career though and his current position in the side, his reckless ways with the bat may have just cost him a spot in the upcoming World Cup. It wouldn't be the right decision though, a player as aggressive as Munro doesn't come around too often and mustn't be wasted. Even Munro himself has stated that he doesn't know his role in New Zealand's ODI team, tossing up between maintaining his aggressive T20 approach or taking things down a notch which isn't his natural game. The Black Caps must stick fat with Munro, he's a genuine match-winner and could play a big part in England & Wales later this year.

Afghanistan prove they are no "pushovers"

The Afghani's have just wrapped up a 3-0 T20I series victory over Ireland, not overly breathtaking given the opposition but still a dominant performance from the World Cup hopefuls. Those who haven't kept up to date with this particular series, the second game in particular was a batting-onslaught courtesy of Hazratullah Zazai who just about smoked the leather of the ball with his unbeaten 162 from just 62 deliveries. It was a seriously clinical performance with the bat, it was like throwing a stick with your dog down at the park, the ball just kept getting thrown back over the fence as Hazratullah dispatched a whopping 16 sixes! It's no surprise that Rashid Khan topped the wickets for the series with 11 including a double hat-trick in the final match at Dehra Dun.

So where do Afghanistan stand among the other International teams? Well, they already find themselves above Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the T20I rankings currently sitting 8th, and they've also managed to work their way up to 10th in the ODI rankings and look set to surpass the West Indies at some stage. The likes of Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Shahzad should give them some chance of knocking off one if not a couple teams in this years World Cup, they've also found another handy batsman going by the name of Hazratullah Zazai who is just 20-years of age as well.
