Imam Survives a Scare as Pakistan Level Series With a Thumping Win
Batting on 16, Imam ul Haq was facing one of the world's fastest bowlers, Lockie Ferguson who was steaming in and firing bouncers at the Pakistani duo of Imam and Fakhar. Some of the deliveries even clocked more than 150kmph.While Imam looked in control most of the times, he got hurried by one of the bouncers from Lockie which hit the grille of his helmet. Imam was suddenly seen struggling to take off his helmet before collapsing to the ground. His eyes were closed but he didn't loose consciousness. Source The Pakistani physio came out soon to attend Imam and examined him for a very long time and when Imam was back on his feet he looked dazed and uncomfortable. It was very surprising to see that Imam wanted to continue batting but the umpire stopped the play and pointed towards the Pakistani physio to help Imam off the field. The play was stopped again only after 5 balls were bowled because the ambulance in which Imam was carried to a nearby hospital got stuck near the sight screen. Source Some precautionary scans were carried out in the hospital and they were all clear. A Pakistani official said that Imam was conscious in the ambulance on their way to the hospital. He will continue to be a part of the tour but will remain under the observation of team physio. Source Pakistan went on to win the the match comfortably with 6 wickets in hand. Batting first New Zealand started badly loosing two wickets very early. Ross Taylor and George Worker steadied the ship and put on a decent partnership of 50 runs before the latter was cleaned up by Hafeez. Ross Taylor found little support in the form of Henry Nicholas but the rest of the team bent their knees before Shaeen Afridi who picked up 4 wickets. Ross Taylor scored an unbeaten 86 with Henry Nicholas scoring 33. Source For Pakistan Shaheen Afridi was brilliant with the ball as he took four wickets. He was well supported by all the other bowlers especially the spinners who really put brakes on New Zealand batsmen and didn't allow them to score freely. Source Pakistan started positively with both Fakhar and Imam looking very comfortable on the crease. After Imam was hurt and retired, Babar Azam joined hands with Fakhar and put on an excellent partnership. Both of them looked on top of their game and played their shots freely. Fakhar fell short of a century by 12 runs and Babar missed his half century by 4 runs but they had already done the damage. Hafeez made sure that Pakistan went over the line without any hick ups. Source Lockie Ferguson picked up 3 wickets and was very impressive but he leaked runs. All the other went for too many. They had a small total to defend and they tried to take wickets upfront and in the process leaked many runs.
