WI vs ENG: A Session Wise Analysis
So cricket returned, and it returned in great style. A dominant display by West Indies and they go 1-0 up in the test series. So let's recap how things proceeded and what went wrong for England. Day 1 . Session 1 Session Score- Eng 35-1 in 17.4 overs Total - Eng 35-1in 17.4 overs Although not as bright a day cricket fans were expecting, but still we got something to cherish. Only 17.4 overs were played but West Indies had started asserting authority. The pace attack bowled some rippers and the conditions were damn helpful for them. Burns and Denly did a good job in reasonably tough conditions after Sibley missed a straight delivery. Star of the Session Kemar Roach Although Gabriel got the only wicket of the day, it was Roach who was bowling beautifully but not getting rewards for his performance. He was causing problems for Burns. 6 overs - 2 runs - 4 maidens - 0 wickets. Winner of the session- West Indies Probable Result/ Favorites - Draw Day 2 . Session 1 Session Score - Eng 71-4 in 25.2 overs Total Score - Eng 106-5 in 43 overs The batting order crumbled in this session. Holder and Gabriel troubled the English Batsman by finding numerous edges. Crawley and Pope managed to get brief starts but eventually succumbed. Burns and Denly could not capitalize on the good work they did on the first day. Leaving Buttler and Stokes to do something special for their team. Star of the Session Jason Holder Holder came up with some beauties against Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, and Zak Crawley. Rarely did he pitched something up. Getting wickets of Crawley and Pope. Session 2 Session Score - Eng 98-5 in 24.3 overs Total Score - Eng 204/10 in 67.3 overs After ripping past the middle order West Indies did not take much time to wag off the tale. Stokes and Buttler were looking good in there 67 run stand ( 48 off which came in the final session ) when Holder dismissed both in quick succession. Dom Bess went on to add a valuable 31* until Gabriel knocked off Jimmy as the pair added 30 for the last wicket. England was dismissed for 204. Star of the Session Jason Holder Holder scaled four of the remaining 5 wickets including well set Jos Buttler and his counterpart Ben Stokes. The pace attack came together to blow the English middle and lower order. Winner of the session- West Indies Probable Result/ Favorites - West Indies Session 3 Session Score Wi 57-2 Total Score Wi 200-6 England got Dowrich and the scoreboard read 168-5, there was still hope in the minds of Englishman but Blackwood and Holder ensured that they took their team over the line. Blackwood was dismissed on 95 with Indies requiring just 11 runs. The job was almost done and Holder and Campbell ensure that their team crosses the line without any more wickets. Star of Session 2 and 3 Jermaine Blackwood The way Blackwood played was commendable. He played each ball on its merit and that is what test cricket is all about. He was cutting the ball considerably well. Seeing his terrible record against off-spin he handled Bess very well. He deserved that hundred. Run Scored in session 2 and 3 - 95(154) . A massive factor for WI was that on the first day only 17 overs were bowled, hence they were lucky to bat on a day 4 pitch on the fifth day of the test match. Currently, I see Denly going out and Root coming in for the home side and Broad replacing Wood. The series will be exciting I hope West Indies carry forward their form.
