CYC Attariya wins DPL title
An all-around performance from Sunny Patel ensured CYC Attariya to win the Dhangadi Premier League (DPL) for the first time. Sunny Patel played a great knock at the crucial stage that helped CYC to win the final match in the second last ball of the batch. Source Dhangadi Premier League is one of the famous franchise-based Twenty20 league cricket in Nepal. It is the third edition of the DPL, which was started since 2017. Dhangadhi Stars won the title in the two previous occasions but the finished last for this season. DPL was started by Sudur Paschim Academy and Dhangadi Cricket Academy in 2017. This tournament has served as the source of many young players in Nepal national team. Also, the best 14 young players from this edition of DPL will get a chance in South Africa tour where they will play with different clubs of Cape Town in South Africa tour. Six teams from around the country participated in this tournament led by different national players of Nepal. CYC Attariya led by Dipendra Singh Airee and Mahendranagar United led Sharad Vesawkar played an exciting final in Dhangadi. Winning the toss, Mahendranagar United elected to bat first. Mahendranagar only managed 123 runs losing all their wickets in the 20th over. D Nath was their highest scorer with 43 runs. Kushal Malla and RK Paudel also chipped in 25 and 24 runs respectively. Surprisingly, 5 of the players got run out in the inning of Mahendranagar United. Sunny Patel took a wicket but conceded only one run in his four over. In reply, CYC Attariya made a good start of 31 runs for the first wicket before Gyanendra Kunwar was bold out by Avinash Bohora. But Attariya quickly started losing wicket leaving themselves struggling at 5 for 54 runs. Captain DS Airee and Sunny Patel carried them to the victory. Sunny Patel made 47 runs off 26 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to take Attariya to the victory. For his brilliant all-around performance, Sunny Patel was awarded Man of the Match award. Sunny Patel was also awarded the Best Batsman of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament. Bhuwan Karki of CYC Attriya was awarded the best bowler of the tournament. CYC captain DS Airee won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award.
