For most countries that are deeply interested in cricket, they often prove to be quite demanding. This is not different from Pakistan. For many years now, they have established themselves as one of the great nations to have played the game and they do not want to be referred only in the past tense. Hence, much is often demanded from their players as they try to make sure that they have all they need to succeed in the long term. One such player who has such a responsibility would be none other than Mohammad Amir. Let’s see what we can find out about him. When compared with the recent profiles which we have showcased recently, Amir would prove to be a tad younger than them. Born on the 13th day of April 1992, he is still in his 20s and going quite strong. He is also a player who has hit great strides at a very young age. Take for example his international career. The first time he made his debut for his country was in 2008. By that time, Amir was barely 17 years old. He would go on to make full debuts in both the ODIs and the Test series before he was even an adult. By the year 2009, he was shortlisted as one of the players which Pakistan would be taking to play in the T20 World Cup. Trouble Brewing Sometimes, being exposed to such responsibility at a very young age can prove to be quite overwhelming. We do not know whether this was the case for Amir. However, things definitely went south when he was barely 21. He was convicted for the offense of spot-fixing. The result was a long five-year ban which was and is still being considered to be quite soft by most pundits of the game. By January of 2015, he was finally back into action and marked his return to the game by joining the Vikings in their campaign. He did not have to wait too long to play for Pakistan once again as he was selected to play New Zealand as early as 2016 showing how valuable he is to Pakistan. His value is also seen in the central contract which he nailed in the 2018-2019 season. The contracts were being handed out by the PCB. Change in Career However, retirement in the Test series seemed to come quickly for Amir. In 2019, he announced publicly that he would no longer be playing in the Test series as he would like to concentrate a majority of his efforts on the Limited overs format of the game. In my opinion, as far he is on the ICC ranking, he must surely have been doing something right. Conclusion So barely 27, Amir has seen it all in the game. He has been suspended and applauded amongst others. We do hope that his time in the sport is also filled with such intensity. However, the intensity should always be on the positive note of course.
