The Spectacular Rise of Sandeep Lamichhane
Sandeep Lamichhane, the 18 years old young Nepali leg-spinner has achieved phenomenal success in a short time. He has been successful to leave the mark wherever he plays. Sandeep Lamichhane is not only the cricketer, but he is also the hope of many Nepalese C.ricket fans. In a short time, he has become the global icon and face of Nepal. Becoming a global icon playing from the Associate nation is a tough job, but Sandeep has done it correctly. Sandy has already represented Nepal in different international tournaments and has kicked off his career with the roaring start. He is leaving a mark everywhere, and if he continues to perform like this, he can get significant achievements in the future. Sandeep Lamichhane was first spotted by former Nepal’s head coach Pubudu Dassanayake in Chitwan district. Pubudu was on the trip to the Chitwan District, where he visited the academy of Raju Khadka. Raju has represented Nepal in the international stage, and he’s also the first player to hit a century for Nepal. All the young boys started to show their skills to the national team coach. Like other players, Sandeep came forward to show his skills. Pubudu was impressed by the googlies and leg breaks bowled by Sandy. Pudu was excited and asked Sandy to bowl a few more times. Then he decided to invite Sandy to the close camp of the U19 team. After that, Sandy represented Nepal U19 team in the U-19 World Cup 2016 Bangladesh, where he started writing the success stories by grabbing 14 wickets including five wickets against Ireland. He finished the U-19 World Cup as the second highest wicket-taker, he was just behind the Coetzee of Namibia. He impressed everyone with the fantastic performance against Pakistan and five wickets against Ireland with a hat-trick. After the impressive performances, Sandy was called to play for Kowloon Cantoons in Hong Kong T20 Blitz. In that tournament, Sandy played under the captaincy of Michael Clarke. Due to the rain, the competition was disturbed, and Sandy got only three overs to bowl. But it was enough for Clarke to see potential in him. After a few days, he was invited by Clarke in his cricket academy located in Sydney. Then he got chance to play with Clarke for the Western Suburbs and spend the entire season there. Again he represented Nepal in the ICC World Cricket League Division Two which was held in Namibia. He continued his phenomenal performance and grabbed up 17 wickets followed by 13 wickets in World Cup Qualifier Zimbabwe. In that tournament, Nepal finished in the 8th position, which was enough to earn the ODI status for the next four years. Then he was listed in the IPL auction and become the first player from Nepal to get listed. In the auction, he was signed up by Delhi in the base price. He wasn’t included in the playing XI, and he was on the sidelines for the many matches. Delhi Daredevils failed to qualify for the next stage, and they gave chances to some unused players including Sandeep. Sandeep utilized the opportunity and picked up five wickets in the last three matches. This was enough for this young player to raise the profile and stock too. After that played in almost all top cricket leagues around the world. Then in the October last year, he was signed by the Melbourne Stars for the Big Bash League, where he once again showed his impressive performance. He was also signed by Syhlet Sixers for Bangladesh Premier League, so he came to Bangladesh for BPL after playing few matches with Melbourne Stars in BBL. He becomes one of the busiest players in the franchise based cricket tournaments. Sandeep became the first player to debut in T20I representing a combined team when he played for World XI which played against the West Indies. He is also among the first eleven players from Nepal to play first ODI match which was against the Netherlands in August last year. From learning cricket in Chitwan to sharing the dressing room with top players around the world, Sandeep has got unbelievable success in a few years. Sandy has a great future in this game. He is just Eighteen years old, and he has a lot of things to do in his life. He needs to stay focused, confident, disciplined and work hard to continue his high performance.
