Player Profile: Usman Khawaja
One of the best things about the game of cricket is that it is quite intriguing. With that quality comes another quality which we just cannot get enough of. That quality is addictiveness. Cricket has also led to many life-altering decisions by players. This is exactly what happened to one player who has played most of his career with his country Australia. That player is none other than Usman Khawaja Born in December 1986, he has played an active part in all of his country's affairs in recent times. The amazing thing about him is that his path didn't start this way. His place of birth was in Pakistan. When he was five, his family thought it was a wise choice to emigrate to another country namely Australia and that is where he grew up. Growing up in Australia would see him get to go to college and become a pilot. However, he gave all that up just to play the sport which he loved dearly. That is one sacrifice that would always be remembered. At 32 years, it is clear and undeniable that he has achieved quite a lot already. His debut for his country would come in the Ashes series which held between 2010/2011. He got his chance in this series when Ponting injured his fingers in the process of playing. He would also make his Test series within that time frame when he played against England during the Test series. By playing for the Australian International team, he not only become the first Pakistani born player to play for Australia but also became the first Muslim to do so. What is a great career without a little bit of trouble? Well, for Usman, it surely is incomplete. During the Test series which held in 2013, Usman and a bunch of other players were suspended from the National team. This happened just before the big game against India. This was perceived to be because of a lack of discipline on their part as the news sent shock waves through Australia. However, he would be back on the international side that same year when he played in the Ashes series. His records for his country are also proof of his great service during this period. During the time spent playing for his country, he has scored at least 10 centuries. Eight of them have come in the Test series while the remaining two have come in the ODI matches. Domestically, he has also played for several clubs. These clubs would include Lancashire amongst others. In 2016, he also announced that he had exchanged wedding vows with his girlfriend Rachel and they have been married ever since. Usman is currently 32 and is enjoying every bit of his cricket. It is clear then that he would probably want to go on for quite a while. It remains to be seen just how possible this would turn out to be. We can watch and see.
