Learn how to know when a Pokémon is going to run away so you can be proactive and NEVER break your catch combo!
KANTO - Stop me if you've heard this one before. You're an hour into a catch combo, working hard to catch that beloved shiny Pokémon you've been craving to come across since Pokémon: Let's Go came out. All of a sudden, your hopes and dreams are crushed because one of the Pokémon runs away from you, breaking your catch combo and forcing you to start all over again! I'm getting angry just thinking about it.
This is something that many, most likely all Pokémon trainers have experienced since Pokémon: Let's Go was released early last month. It sucks the life out of your drive to play the game, and makes you want to give up on trying to catch a shiny Pokémon, especially if the regular version of the Pokémon is hard to catch.
Luckily, there is a hint that every Pokémon gives you to know when they will run away, so you can run away first and save your catch combo! Below is a step-by-step guide to show you how to know when a Pokémon will run away from you.
Okay, so if you've been playing the game, you'll notice that Pokémon will perform certain moves while they are in the catch screen which will remove the catch circle from the screen and will cause Poké balls to bounce off them if you throw one in their direction. These moves they perform can be viewed in the Pokédex and will be the key to knowing when they will run away from you in the catch screen.
Here's how to view these moves:
- Go to your Pokédex
- Click on the Pokémon whose move you want to view
- Once you click on that Pokémon in the Pokédex, click "Check Data"
- On the next screen, you'll notice some button options on the button right of your screen. Click the option that says "Check motion"
- On the bottom right of the following screen, there should be an option called "Next Move" which will allow you to toggle through the Pokémon's moves with the click of a button. Click that button once to see the first move it performs. Click that button a second time to see it's next move. THE SECOND MOVE IT PERFORMS ON THAT SCREEN WILL BE THE ONE IT PERFORMS BEFORE IT RUNS AWAY IN THE CATCH SCREEN.
Below is a video to show you what these steps look like in-game:
On the catch screen, when the Pokémon performs the second move that you viewed in the Pokédex, you will have 2 seconds to run away from it before it runs away from you. Running away from the Pokémon will allow you to prevent your catch combo from breaking.
It is also worth noting that if you throw a Poké Ball at the Pokémon after it has performed that second move AND it breaks out of that Poké Ball, the Pokémon will run away without you having a chance to run away from it first. So don't take the chance of trying to catch it. Just run away and wait for the next one to spawn.
